CGDI A2 vs. CGDI MB Benz Key Programmer
Both CGDI A2 and CGDI MB are capable of programming keys for Mercedes-Benz vehicles—but they differ significantly in features and versatility.
CGDI A2 Key Programmer
-
CGDI A2 is a next-generation, multifunctional tool that combines key programming, frequency detection and Wi-Fi connectivity.
-
It supports not only Mercedes-Benz (after you activate the required “Benz license”) but also many other vehicle brands, including:
-
Volkswagen (MQB platform)
-
Mazda CX-30
-
Toyota (8A/4A systems — full smart-card replacement, no physical card needed)
-
Honda (smart-key systems, 2021 and newer)
-
Nissan (28-digit password-free matching)
-
BMW (BDC2 systems from 2016 onward)
-
-
Key advantages: password-free and disassembly-free matching for many models, automatic VIN/chassis-number detection for Benz cars, CAN-FD support for GM cars, and free updates for supported systems.
-
Note: To enable Mercedes-Benz functions, you must send your CGDI A2 serial number to customer service for activation — no shipping is needed after activation.
CGDI MB Benz Key Programmer
-
CGDI MB is a tool specialized for Mercedes-Benz vehicles and focuses on delivering advanced, Benz-specific key programming functions.
-
Supported key-programming functions include: reading/writing keys, generating key files, password calculation, wiring diagrams, and EIS (ignition system) handling.
-
Some limitations (as of now): no support yet for ELV synchronization, reading new BGA keys, upgrading CG PKE keys, or switching key frequency for CG keys.
Which to choose?
-
Go for CGDI A2 if you work with multiple car brands (not just Mercedes) and want a flexible, all-in-one key-programming device.
-
Choose CGDI MB if your work is focused on Mercedes-Benz and you need a tool optimized for the most complete set of Benz-specific key programming capabilities.
