How to Reset Xhorse Smart Remote (If Re-generation Fails)
If you try to re-generate (re-write) your Xhorse Smart Remote and it fails, you can try to reset it so it can be re-used or reprogrammed.
Xhorse Smart Remotes come in two main types: XM38 Smart Remote and NXP Smart Remote. The reset procedure depends on which type you have.
For XM38 Smart Remote
-
Remove the battery from the remote.
-
Press and hold the Lock button on the remote.
-
While still holding the Lock button, install the battery back into the remote.
-
Observe the circuit-board (PCB) inside: a light on the PCB should turn on. This indicates the remote is being reset.
-
Once the reset is done and the PCB light is active, you can proceed to burn / generate the remote controls again (i.e. re-program it for a car) as if it were a new remote.
Note: If your XM38 remote is a Chinese-market version, it may not work properly on a global / international device.
For NXP Smart Remote
-
First, check the battery condition — make sure the battery has sufficient capacity.
-
If the battery is weak or depleted, replace the battery with a fresh one.
-
After replacing the battery, attempt to re-generate/program the remote again.
If after replacing the battery and retrying the programming the remote still fails, the only reliable option may be to send the remote back to the factory for servicing or replacement.
